WHEN MIGHT AN ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT BE NEEDED?

An assistive technology assessment may be useful if a person:

  • Is experiencing changes in their mobility or physical function.

  • Is finding everyday tasks more difficult, or struggling to complete tasks safely.

  • Wants to increase their independence and participation.

  • Is adjusting to a new or changed disability.

  • Requires clinical recommendations for equipment to support the achievement of their NDIS goals.

Please note:

Assistive technology recommendations are based on how your disability impacts your everyday activities and support needs. For this reason, any technology prescribed must be directly related to your diagnosed disability. Supports that are not considered relevant to your disability may not meet approval requirements.

About the adult assistive technology assessment process

what the adult assessment includes

1

IN-HOME
ASSESSMENT

Your Occupational Therapist will take the time to get to know you and understand your goals. Together, you’ll explore how you move through your space and complete everyday tasks. The insights gathered during this process will help your therapist identify any barriers that may be affecting your ability to participate independently and safely.

2

EQUIPMENT TRIAL & FEEDBACK

Where possible, your Occupational Therapist will organise equipment trials before completing your assessment report. This allows you to discover which equipment best suits your individual needs, preferences, environment, and goals.

3

COMPREHENSIVE
REPORT

After the assessment, your Occupational Therapist will prepare a detailed report outlining the challenges and barriers identified, along with clinically justified equipment recommendations. Where applicable, associated costs and quotes will also be included for your reference.
